Blue-Ray
Blu-Ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format. The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. A single layer disk can hold 25GB of memory, whilst the two layer version can hold up to 50GB of memory. Blu-Ray discs use a blue laser beam to read data from discs, rather than the older red lasers used for DVDs, hence the name Blu-Ray.
To play Blu-Ray discs you will need a Blu-Ray player. It is worth noting that PlayStation 3's come with a Blu-Ray player built into them. To take full advantage you will also need a HDTV. It is important to remember that all Blu-Ray players will play DVD's. There are currently only around 1000 titles available on Blu-Ray compared to the near 100,000 available on DVD, however more and more movies are being to be converted to Blu-Ray discs each day. There are many places you can puchase blu-ray players. The internet has a whole host of websites where blu-ray players are readily available for purchase. Be sure to have a good shopa round though so you are able to find the best deal, as blu-ray players can be rather expensive.
