DVD's

Although DVD isn't all that new, in fact it was first introduced in Japan in 1996, then to the rest of the world in the years that followed. Despite this DVD's are still going strong, and because they are going so strong they have limited the sales of it's much newer counterpart the Blu-Ray disk (Jump over to our Blu-Ray section for more on that).
DVD is short for digital versatile disk, it looks much like a CD, the difference being a DVD can hold up to 6 times the amount of a CD. Recordable and rewritable DVD's are also available. DVD sales currently dominate the video market with around 97% of sales being DVD's.
A DVD player can now be purchased for sometimes less than £10, with many retailers selling DVD's for as little as £2! It is estimated that since there release there has been over a billion DVD's have sold around the world.
