Freeview

Freeview is the operator of free digital television in the UK. Freeview offers a large number of TV channels free of charge, as well as offering pay-per view channels. The only cost is the actual set-top box itself, which can usually be purchased from £15 upwards. It should be noted that a standard TV licence is still needed. Freeview has now introduced Freeview set-top boxes with a record feature on them. They come with a built in hard drive which is used to store any TV programmes you may have recorded and saved.

In the UK it is estimated that there are around 60 million TV sets in use, and around 35% of these are equipped with a freeview box, or have a TV with freeview integrated into it. However currently it is estimated that around 27% of households cannot receive the Freeview signal. This should be rectified by 2012 when the digital cross over is completed.
